Food sensitivity test
IgE and IgG antibody panel
A blood test measuring IgE and IgG antibodies to over 100 common foods, done at a collection centre near you and read with me. I'll also be straight with you about what this test can and can't tell you.
The food panel I use is NutriPath's IgE and IgG General Western Food Panel (test code 3211). It measures two kinds of antibody: IgE, the immediate-type allergy antibody, against 27 foods, and IgG against 96 foods. Unlike the other tests here, this one is an actual blood draw. I email you a request form and you visit a NutriPath collection centre.
A word on IgG. A raised IgG result shows your immune system has met that food, and often it simply reflects what you eat. So you won’t get a list of banned foods from me. What I do use it for is shaping a short, structured trial and reintroduction, read alongside your history and symptoms, and I find that stage really satisfying because it’s usually where the real information comes from and things start to make sense for someone.
But the IgE side is different, it can flag genuine allergic sensitisation, and if it does the next step is your GP or an allergist, and I’ll point you straight there.
Who it suits
Who this test is for
- Eczema, hives or rashes that come and go
- Headaches or migraines with a suspected food link
- Bloating or bowel changes with no clear pattern
- Chronic sinus congestion
- A gut test that's raised the question of food reactions
- Wanting some structure before trying an elimination diet
Before you order
A few things I’ll check with you
- You'll need to get to a NutriPath collection centre. They're in most cities and larger towns, and I'll check there's one near you before ordering.
- Antihistamines and steroid medications can affect antibody results. Tell me what you take.
- If you've ever had a severe allergic reaction to a food, with swelling or difficulty breathing, see your GP or an allergist.
- If you're already avoiding a food completely, IgG to it may read low. Tell me what you've cut out.
- It can be done for children, but it is a blood draw. Talk to me first.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How do you use the results?
Used carefully, they give us somewhere to start. Guessing your way through elimination diets is exhausting, and I’d rather have a shape to work from than none. The consultation is where the judgement happens, and quite often the answer ends up being a short trial of two or three foods.
Do I need to fast?
The request form and the collection centre will tell you if any preparation is needed. I'll confirm this with you before you book in.
Where do I get the blood taken?
At a NutriPath collection centre. They're in most cities and larger towns across Australia. I'll help you find the nearest one.
How long until I get results?
Usually 12 to 15 business days after collection. They come to me, and I'll email you to book your consultation as soon as they land.
Do I need to be on the Gold Coast?
No. Collection centres are around the country and our consultation is over video.
